This example shows the calculation of a simple column which performs the separation of hexane and heavier components from pentanes and lighter components.
The feed stream is named F100, its temperature is 163°F and the pressure is 37 psia.

The column is specified with 8 trays a condenser and a reboiler, so the total number of theoretical trays is 10.
Top and bottom products are specified in terms of the hexane composition:

The column is operated with condenser pressure set at 30.5 psia, pressure drop at condenser (tray 0) is set at 5 psia and pressure drop per tray is set at 0.1 psia.
Bottom product flowrate is estimated at 15 lbm/h.
Top column temperature is estimated at 130°F whereas the bottom temperature is set at 200°F.

The Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK) is used for vapor-liquid equilibrium and the Lee-Kesler (LK) for enthalpy, entropy and density calculations.
